New website design & development questionnaire

The purpose of this survey is to help you document your overall goals for your new web site design and development project. It will answer specific questions regarding message, audience, content, look and feel, and functionality.

The survey will also give us the information we need to develop a no obligation proposal and / or gather the information we need to begin your project.

What is your company name and current/or intended URL (web address)?
Who are the primary contacts for your organization?
Who has final approval on this project? (Please list name/s, title/s, email address/s, and telephone number/s).
What is the intended launch date for the new site? Are there any outside considerations that might affect the schedule (i.e., PR launch, tradeshow, annual report)?
AUDIENCE
Describe a typical user coming to your site (Age, gender, computer skill level, etc.)
What is the primary "action" the user should take when visiting your site (make a purchase, become a member, or search for information)?
PERCEPTION
Use a few adjectives to describe how the user should perceive the new site. (Some examples are; prestigious, friendly, corporate, fun, f innovative, and cutting-edge.) Is this different than the current image perception?
How do you differentiate yourself from your competition? Please list competitor URLs.
List the URLs of any sites you find compelling. What do you like about these sites?
CONTENT
Will the new site use existing content from the current site?
How will you maintain/update content on your new website (use a content management system and maintain it internally or have your website design firm make changes or updates for you.
INTERNET TECHNOLOGY/ WEB DEVELOPMENT
What if any, specific technologies you would like to see on your website (Flash, DHTML, JavaScript, and Audio and / or Video Clips)? How will this technology enhance the user experience? Please describe in detail.
Will you have database functionality (dynamic content generation, search capabilities, personalization/login)? Do you already have a database in place? Please describe it in detail, including specific information regarding existing programs and software.
Will you have a need for secured transactions (e-commerce)? Do you already offer transactions online? Please describe in detail.
How do you plan to keep your website content current (Internal programmer/s will update the site, plan to use a content management system (CMS), or have your website design and development firm update your site?
Who is responsible for providing the content for your website? Do you require copywriting services?
